DOOM 3

Senior Level Designer (multiplayer)
Splash Damage
2004 – PC

Doom 3 was developed by id Software with multiplayer levels created by Splash Damage.

As a Senior Level Designer on the project, I created layouts and entity scripting for the deathmatch levels, environment detailing, lighting, performance optimisations, and bug fixing.

Towards the end of production, I spent six weeks working at the id Software offices in Mesquite, Texas to put the final touches on all the multiplayer levels. What an inspiring and amazing opportunity that was!

For consistency and efficiency, the multiplayer levels took design cues and re-used geometry from the singleplayer game. I’m proud to say that my multiplayer level “D3DM3 – Frag Chamber” inspired id Software to incorporate the design and scripted elements back into the “Alpha Labs” section the singleplayer game. Activate the chamber to trap and kill unsuspecting enemies!

The designers at id Software created a multiplayer map for Doom 3 called “D3DM4 – The Edge 2” as a spiritual successor to Quake 2‘s classic “Q2DM1 – The Edge”. The new map is styled after the “Delta Labs” section of the singleplayer game. Inspired by the high tech teleporter model found in the labs, I created an older looking, retro-styled teleporter for my sections of the multiplayer map to really lean into the throwback vibe of the level.
